Autism Learning Mentor

Milk Education is more than a supply partner – we’re a community for educators. Join us and gain access to training, personal development opportunities, and ongoing support. We are looking for passionate, dedicated, and experienced Autism Learning Mentors to provide specialist support for young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) across mainstream secondary schools, specialist SEN schools, and alternative education settings throughout Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people by helping them overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve positive educational outcomes.

The Role

As an Autism Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students on a one-to-one and small group basis, delivering personalised support that promotes engagement, emotional wellbeing, independence, and academic progress.

You will collaborate with school staff, SENCOs, families, and external professionals to ensure each young person receives the support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Support students with additional needs including ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and anxiety.
  • Implement strategies identified within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and resilience.
  • Support students within lessons, during social times, and through transitions.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs to adapt support and remove barriers to learning.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and confidence in all aspects of school life.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Has knowledge of additional special educational needs, including ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs.
  • Is calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Can adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Can work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Experience within secondary schools, SEN schools, or alternative provisions.
  • Knowledge of autism-friendly strategies, positive behaviour support, and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, health and social care, or special educational needs.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • 24/7 support from your personal consultant, directly through their work mobile phone to ensure your journey is personal.
