Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.
Whether you’re an experienced Teaching Assistant or have a background in behaviour support, youth work, care, mentoring, or working with children and young people, we’d love to hear from you. We have a range of long-term and full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
You’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils who may experience behavioural, social, or emotional challenges, helping them develop positive relationships, confidence, emotional regulation, and the skills they need to engage successfully with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with behavioural needs.
- Build positive, trusting, and consistent relationships with pupils.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence, and social skills.
- Implement individual behaviour and support strategies.
- Support pupils to access learning and engage positively within the classroom.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and other professionals.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in pupil behaviour.
- Use positive and consistent strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
- Support pupils during challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
- Experience with behaviour, SEMH, SEND, or additional needs is advantageous.
- Experience in education, youth work, care, mentoring, or support work is welcomed.
- A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Confident supporting children with challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
