Salary: £110 – £140 per day (depending on experience)

Are you an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in primary education? We are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Durham to recruit a confident HLTA to join their team from September 2026.

This rewarding role is ideal for an enthusiastic practitioner who enjoys supporting pupils across the primary age range, delivering engaging lessons, and working closely with teachers to help every child achieve their full potential. You’ll play a key role in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning while contributing to a positive and nurturing school environment.

About the Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver engaging lessons to whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Plan, prepare and adapt learning activities in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Support pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to individuals and small groups to accelerate progress in core subjects.
  • Support children with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs through tailored strategies and inclusive practice.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help create a safe, supportive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers to support future planning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCO, senior leaders and parents to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs and school events where appropriate.

About You

We’re looking for candidates who are:

  • Qualified as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or have significant experience working at HLTA level within a primary school.
  • Experienced supporting teaching and learning across the primary curriculum.
  • Confident leading whole-class learning and managing behaviour effectively.
  • Passionate about helping children achieve both academically and personally.
  • Flexible, proactive and able to adapt to the varying needs of pupils.
  • Skilled at building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Hold (or are willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
