Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Durham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.
Whether you’re an experienced Learning Support Assistant, hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or have recent experience supporting children within a primary school setting, we’d love to hear from you.
We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play an important role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential by providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and learning activities.
- Provide one-to-one and small group intervention support.
- Assist pupils with literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum learning.
- Support pupils with SEND where required.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
- Adapt learning resources to meet individual pupil needs.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and school staff.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- Previous experience working within a primary school or educational setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with a range of learning abilities.
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for helping children succeed academically and personally.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting salary will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
