The Role: As a Learning Support Assistant with a focus on Mathematics, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the academic progress and well-being of students with diverse learning needs, both on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored support to a pupil within a mainstream class, implementing strategies to reinforce Mathematics skills and concepts in alignment with their Individualised Education Plan (IEP).
  • Collaborating closely with the class teacher to ensure that lesson plans and activities are differentiated to meet the individual needs of the supported student, facilitating their full participation in classroom learning.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Mathematics-focused interventions and support programs, monitoring progress and adjusting strategies as necessary to promote student success.
  • Managing any challenging behaviour in a proactive and positive manner, employing de-escalation techniques and promoting a calm and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and external specialists, contributing insights and feedback to multidisciplinary meetings and team discussions focused on student progress and well-being.

 

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with students with diverse learning needs, particularly in Mathematics support.
  • A solid understanding of Mathematics concepts and the ability to effectively communicate mathematical ideas to students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Resilience, patience, and a proactive approach to managing challenging behaviour in a classroom setting.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, following the direction of the class teacher while also demonstrating initiative and autonomy in supporting student learning.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
