Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Secondary School in Bolton

Milk Education are currently looking for a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive secondary school in Bolton from September.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA who is confident working independently, leading learning and providing additional support to students across the secondary curriculum. You will play an important role in helping pupils stay engaged with their education, develop their confidence and achieve their academic potential.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who hold HLTA status or an equivalent qualification and who have experience working with secondary-aged pupils. The ideal candidate will be confident delivering pre-planned lessons, leading whole-class activities and providing targeted support to students with different learning needs.

Working closely with teachers and other members of staff, you will help maintain a positive and purposeful learning environment where students are encouraged to participate, progress and achieve.

The Role

As an HLTA, your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering pre-prepared lessons and taking responsibility for whole classes when teachers are absent on a short-term basis
• Supporting effective teaching and learning across a variety of secondary curriculum areas
• Providing targeted support and intervention to individuals and small groups
• Helping students overcome barriers to learning and improve their confidence and attainment
• Working alongside teachers to prepare, organise and review learning activities
• Supporting pupils with a variety of educational needs, including SEND where required
• Encouraging positive behaviour and maintaining a focused and respectful classroom environment
• Monitoring students’ engagement and progress and sharing relevant feedback with teaching staff
• Building positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues
• Communicating with parents/carers where appropriate and in line with school procedures
• Preparing teaching materials and assisting with the organisation of classroom activities
• Supporting the school’s safeguarding, wellbeing and behaviour expectations
• Encouraging students to take responsibility for their learning and personal development

About You

The successful candidate will ideally:

• Hold HLTA status or an equivalent qualification (essential)
• Have previous experience working with secondary-aged students within a school environment
• Be confident taking the lead with whole-class learning and working independently
• Have strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
• Be able to establish positive relationships and maintain high expectations
• Have the ability to motivate, encourage and engage young people
• Be adaptable and confident responding to different classroom situations
• Be proactive and comfortable using initiative when supporting students
• Have an understanding of safeguarding and child protection, or be willing to complete relevant training
• Be committed to supporting students’ academic achievement alongside their social and emotional development

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be based on your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
