SEN Learning Support Assistant

SEN Learning Support Assistant

Milk Education is more than a supply partner — we’re a community for educators.

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning? Do you have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, or transferable skills from care, youth work, or support settings?

Milk Education is recruiting SEN Learning Support Assistants to work across welcoming secondary schools in Gateshead and the surrounding areas, with opportunities available from September on a term-time basis.

The Role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you’ll provide tailored support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Working closely with teachers and SEND teams, you’ll support students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, and within the classroom to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEND.
  • Support pupils in accessing lessons and adapting learning activities where needed.
  • Encourage student engagement, independence, and confidence.
  • Assist with implementing individual learning plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow school safeguarding, behaviour, and SEND policies at all times.

Who We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND, or transferable experience from care, youth work, coaching, or support work.
  • Are patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are passionate about inclusive education and making a positive impact.
  • Can build trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Hold (or are willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
