Milk Education is recruiting Learning Support Assistants to support secondary schools across Durham and the surrounding areas. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference to students’ education, confidence and wellbeing while gaining valuable experience within a supportive school environment.

Whether you have previous experience in education or transferable experience from care, youth work, mentoring, coaching or support roles, we want to hear from you!

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 within the classroom
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to help students access their learning
  • Work alongside teachers to support lesson delivery and classroom activities
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and develop greater independence
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs
  • Encourage students to remain engaged, focused and motivated
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Support positive behaviour and follow individual support strategies
  • Assist with classroom organisation and learning resources
  • Follow school safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety procedures

This role is a fantastic opportunity to develop your experience in education, SEND, behaviour support and pastoral care, while making a genuine difference to young people’s day-to-day learning.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, caring and supportive approach
  • Confidence working with young people
  • Ability to adapt to different students and learning needs
  • Professional, reliable and positive attitude
  • Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential
