SEND Support Worker – School Based (Young People)
Location: Durham
Full-time and Part-time opportunities available

Milk Education is working with a SEND specialist provision in the Durham area to recruit SEND Support Workers who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the lives of children with Autism and complex needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This role is suited to individuals who are patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children to feel safe, understood, and included in their learning. The SEND Support Worker will work with pupils who may be non-verbal, have physical disabilities (PMLD), or require high levels of personalised support, so a calm, non-judgemental approach and strong communication skills are essential.

Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability. 

SEND Support Worker Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND ranging from 5 – 19 years
  • Support the delivery of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP’s) 
  • Encourage emotional wellbeing, communication, and social development
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, SEND Support staff, and external professionals
  • Support with personal care when required: PEG Feeding, Moving and Handling, Toileting (training provided)
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

SEND Support Worker Person Specification:

  • Support Worker’s who are open to working with children would fit this role perfectly due to the complex needs of the children who attend this school.
  • Experience with personal care / PEG Feeding / moving and handling / toileting is admirable
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • A patient, caring, and non-judgemental approach
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to individual needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply
