1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant – PRU – Stockport
Milk Education are working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Stockport who are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a full-time basis.
This rewarding role involves providing tailored 1:1 support to help a young person engage with learning, regulate their emotions and build positive relationships within the school environment. The school are looking for someone patient, nurturing and consistent who can act as a positive role model and make a genuine difference to a child’s educational journey.
Teaching Assistant – Role & Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student.
- Support emotional regulation and help implement behaviour support strategies.
- Encourage engagement in lessons and learning activities.
- Promote inclusion, confidence and independence.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to ensure the pupil’s needs are met.
- Prepare resources and adapt activities where required.
- Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Recent and relevant experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, school, youth work or care setting is desirable.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
