SEMH 1:1 Support – KS1 – South Tyneside

Job Overview

 

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 pupil within a primary school setting in South Tyneside.

This role involves providing consistent 1:1 support to a child with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships within the classroom environment.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about making a meaningful impact in a child’s early education.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with SEMH needs

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities

  • Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO and wider school team

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children with SEMH or additional needs

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies

  • A genuine passion for supporting children in education

 

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in a school, SEN, or childcare setting

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Right to work in the UK
