Behaviour Buddy – Hartlepool

Milk Education is working with a welcoming and supportive Primary School in Hartlepool and is looking to recruit a caring, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Buddy to join the school from September 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop positive relationships, confidence, and emotional regulation.

Whether you’re an experienced Teaching Assistant or have a background in behaviour support, youth work, care, mentoring, or working with children and young people, we’d love to hear from you. The role will provide dedicated support to a pupil who requires additional guidance to thrive within the school environment.

You’ll play a vital role in helping the pupil make positive behavioural choices, develop meaningful friendships and gradually increase their engagement with classroom-based learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.
  • Build a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil.
  • Support the pupil to develop positive behavioural choices.
  • Promote emotional regulation, confidence, and independence.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and friendships.
  • Support the pupil to engage with classroom learning.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team.
  • Implement agreed behaviour and support strategies consistently.
  • Help identify and reduce barriers to learning.
  • Provide calm and consistent support during challenging situations.
  • Promote safeguarding and the wellbeing of the pupil at all times.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience supporting behaviour, SEMH, SEND, or additional needs is advantageous.
  • Background in education, care, youth work, mentoring, or support work is welcomed.
  • Patient, calm, and resilient approach.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Passion for helping children develop confidence and achieve their potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
