Early Years Teaching Assistant – Reception Class (EYFS) – Primary School in North Manchester

Milk Education are currently seeking a passionate, caring and enthusiastic Early Years Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school in North Manchester, supporting a Reception Class (EYFS) from September.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and is passionate about supporting their learning, development and wellbeing during the important Reception year. The successful candidate will become part of a supportive school community and play an important role in creating a positive, engaging and nurturing learning environment where children can develop their confidence, independence and curiosity.

We welcome applications from experienced Early Years Teaching Assistants, Nursery Practitioners looking to gain experience within a school, graduates looking to begin a career in education, and candidates with relevant experience working with young children.

You will work closely with the Reception class teacher and wider school team to provide children with the support, encouragement and care they need to thrive. You will help create an environment where children feel safe, settled and confident, while supporting them to learn through a combination of structured activities, continuous provision and play-based learning in line with the EYFS framework.

The Role

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant supporting a Reception Class, you will be responsible for:

• Supporting the Reception class teacher with the delivery of engaging, age-appropriate and purposeful learning activities
• Supporting children’s learning through play, exploration and continuous provision
• Providing support to individual pupils and small groups to help them make progress across the EYFS
• Supporting children’s development in communication and language, literacy, mathematics, physical development and personal, social and emotional development
• Supporting early phonics and literacy activities, helping children to develop their early reading and writing skills
• Encouraging children to develop their early mathematical understanding through practical and play-based activities
• Supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development and helping them to develop positive relationships with their peers
• Encouraging children to become increasingly confident, independent and resilient learners
• Supporting children as they settle into school routines and develop their independence
• Helping to create a welcoming, stimulating and inclusive Reception classroom environment
• Supporting the use of continuous provision and helping to prepare and organise engaging learning resources and activities
• Assisting with observations and contributing to the assessment and monitoring of children’s progress
• Developing positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
• Promoting positive behaviour and supporting children’s wellbeing throughout the school day
• Supporting children with their individual needs and adapting activities where appropriate
• Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to a safe, caring and supportive environment for all pupils

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working with children in an Early Years, nursery, preschool, Reception or primary school setting
• Has an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and how young children learn and develop
• Has a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare or Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable but not essential)
• Has a genuine passion for helping young children learn, develop and reach their potential
• Is caring, patient, approachable and enthusiastic
• Is confident supporting children through play-based and child-led learning
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Can work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
• Is reliable, organised and able to use their own initiative
• Has an understanding of safeguarding and child protection, or is willing to undertake relevant training
• Is committed to providing children with a high standard of care, support and learning opportunities

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
