Academic Mentor – Secondary School in Bury
Milk Education are working with a welcoming secondary school in Bury who are seeking a motivated and dedicated Academic Mentor to join their team from September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and become more independent learners.
The role would suit a graduate, aspiring teacher, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor or someone with experience supporting young people who is looking to develop their career in education.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing academic support to individual students and small groups
- Supporting revision, homework, coursework and study skills
- Helping students improve organisation, time management and independence
- Building confidence, motivation and engagement with learning
- Supporting pupils who may be struggling with their studies or motivation
- Setting achievable goals and monitoring student progress
- Working closely with teachers to meet individual student needs
- Encouraging resilience and a positive approach to challenges
- Supporting students with exams and key academic milestones
- Building positive relationships based on trust and respect
- Contributing to a positive and inclusive school environment
- Following safeguarding and school policies
The Person We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from candidates who:
- Have experience supporting children or young people in an educational or youth setting
- Have a genuine passion for education and helping students reach their potential
- Are confident working one-to-one and with small groups
- Are patient, approachable and encouraging
- Have strong communication and organisational skills
- Can motivate students and adapt their approach to different needs
- Are reliable, proactive and able to work as part of a team
- Understand the importance of safeguarding and child protection
- Hold a degree or relevant qualification (desirable but not essential)
Previous experience is valuable, but enthusiasm, patience and a genuine desire to make a difference are equally important.

The rate of pay will be determined in line with the advertised pay scale and will take into consideration your qualifications, previous experience and the requirements of the assignment.
