Early Reading Intervention Assistant – North Newcastle
Location: North Newcastle, Tyne and Wear
Contract: Full-time or part-time (term time only)
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £540 – 580 per week

We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Reading Intervention Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in North Newcastle, helping pupils develop essential early literacy skills.
About the Role
As an Early Reading Intervention Assistant you’ll play a vital role in supporting children who need extra help to develop their phonics knowledge and reading confidence.
You will:

Deliver targeted catch up sessions using the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme.

Support Year 1 pupils at risk of not meeting the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check.

Work with Year 2 pupils who are required to resit the phonics assessment.

Track and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to class teachers and the phonics lead.

Create a positive, nurturing environment where every child feels motivated to succeed.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:

Experience delivering or supporting the Read Write Inc. phonics programme.

A solid understanding of early reading development and phonics instruction.

Experience working with KS1 pupils in small groups or one-to-one.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A proactive, patient, and supportive approach to learning.

An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
A teaching assistant qualification (Level 2 or above) or equivalent experience is desirable.
