Graduate Teaching Assistant – Secondary School in North Manchester
Milk Education are working with a welcoming secondary school in North Manchester seeking an enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on school experience before progressing into teacher training, further study or a career working with young people.
The school welcomes applications from graduates with core subject degrees, including English, Maths and Science, as well as Psychology graduates. The role would suit someone passionate about education and keen to develop their classroom and interpersonal skills.
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. Experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, volunteering or childcare would be beneficial.
About the Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support teachers with lessons across the secondary curriculum
- Provide one-to-one and small-group academic support
- Use your degree subject knowledge to reinforce learning and explain key concepts
- Assist with classwork, homework, revision and study skills
- Help students develop confidence, independence and motivation
- Support pupils who require additional academic or pastoral guidance
- Assist with classroom activities, resources and targeted interventions
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage positive behaviour
- Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team
- Help create a calm, inclusive and purposeful learning environment
- Support student wellbeing and follow safeguarding procedures
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a degree in a core subject such as English, Maths or Science
- Be a Psychology graduate, or have a related degree
- Have a genuine interest in working with secondary-aged students
- Be considering a career in teaching, education, psychology or a related field
- Have strong communication and subject knowledge
- Be enthusiastic, approachable and confident working with young people
- Be patient, supportive and able to adapt to different learners
- Be reliable, proactive and willing to learn
- Be able to work effectively as part of a wider school team
- Understand the importance of safeguarding and child protection
Previous school experience is not essential. Graduates with relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
