KS1 Teaching Assistant

KS1 Teaching Assistant – SEN

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Teaching Assistant to join our SEN primary team from September. You will be working closely with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across KS1, including those who are non-verbal and may display behaviour that challenges or PDA. 

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with complex needs, helping them to access learning and achieve their full potential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ASD and PMLD

  • Assist in delivering individual learning plans and adapting resources

  • Support children with personal care needs where required

  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure consistent support

  • Use strategies to encourage independence, communication, and engagement

 

Requirements

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and/or PMLD

  • Understanding of autism strategies, sensory needs, and communication aids (e.g. PECS, Makaton – desirable but not essential)

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, proactive attitude

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
