Milk Education are working in partnership with a thriving and inclusive secondary school in Newham to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to join their pastoral support team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and proactive Pastoral Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people with their wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and personal development.
The successful Pastoral Assistant will work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping to remove barriers to learning and ensuring pupils receive the guidance and support needed to achieve their full potential. As a Pastoral Assistant, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, improving engagement and contributing to a safe and supportive school environment.
The Role:
- Working as a Pastoral Assistant to support students with attendance, behaviour and wellbeing
- Providing 1:1 mentoring and small-group interventions
- Supporting students who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural challenges
- Monitoring attendance, punctuality and student welfare
- Building positive relationships with students, families and staff
- Working closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding teams and pastoral leaders
- Supporting behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to student support plans
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience as a Pastoral Assistant, Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or Teaching Assistant
- Experience working with secondary-aged students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people
- Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Commitment to supporting students to achieve positive outcomes

Essential Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to Work in the UK
- Two professional references covering the last two years
