Milk Education is working with a range of welcoming and supportive primary schools across Leeds who are looking for a dedicated Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant to join their teams from September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about early reading and helping children develop the confidence and skills they need to become successful readers.

Whether you have previous experience delivering phonics interventions or have a strong background in supporting children with literacy, we’d love to hear from you.


About the Role

As a Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group phonics interventions
  • Support pupils who require additional help with early reading and phonics
  • Follow the school’s chosen phonics programme and intervention strategies
  • Help pupils develop their phonemic awareness, decoding, blending, and segmenting skills
  • Support children to build confidence and develop a love of reading
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher
  • Work closely with teachers and the school’s phonics lead to identify and support learning gaps
  • Adapt activities to meet individual pupils’ learning needs
  • Create a positive, encouraging, and engaging learning environment

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children within a primary school or similar setting
  • Confident supporting phonics, early reading, and literacy
  • Familiar with phonics programmes such as Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, Sounds-Write, or similar (desirable)
  • Patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging
  • Confident delivering 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Able to build positive relationships with children
  • Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning

A Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience is desirable but not essential.
