We’re currently recruiting for a SEND Support Assistant to work within welcoming and supportive Primary Schools, starting in September.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for graduates who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You’ll work closely with pupils who require additional support, helping them access learning, build confidence and achieve their full potential.

This role is particularly suited to graduates considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work or specialist SEND provision.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a range of SEND needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH and learning difficulties.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access learning and achieve individual targets.

  • Work alongside teachers and SENDCOs to implement tailored support strategies and interventions.

  • Support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation and social development.

  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence.

  • Promote positive behaviour and support pupils to develop independence.

  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Ideal Background

We welcome applications from graduates who have completed one of the following degrees within the last five years:

  • Psychology

  • Childhood Studies

  • Early Years Childhood Studies

  • Criminology

  • BA Education

  • Primary Education

  • MA Education

  • MA Education (SEND and Inclusion)

  • PGCE

  • Other Education, Child Development or Social Science-related degrees

Requirements

  • Degree obtained within the last five years.

  • Professional employment references covering the last two years.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Understanding of SEND, Autism, ADHD, SEMH or Speech and Language needs is advantageous.

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
