SEND Teaching Assistant – Alternate Provision

Start: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent placement)
Milk Education is recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join an Alternate Provision within a Primary school in Bradford from September 2026.
The setting supports pupils who may find mainstream education challenging, providing a structured, nurturing environment focused on positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with a background in SEND, SEMH, behaviour support, youth work or care.
Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.

Support pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour.

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent emotional support.

Work alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging and accessible learning activities.

Support pupils with emotional regulation, social development and positive behaviour.

Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.

Use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

Adapt your approach to meet individual pupils’ needs and learning styles.

Help maintain a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment.

Contribute to pupils’ individual targets and wider development.
About You
-
Caring, patient, resilient and confident when supporting children with additional needs.

Experience working with SEND, SEMH, challenging behaviour or vulnerable children is desirable.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Able to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.

Flexible, proactive and able to adapt your approach to individual pupils.
-
Previous experience in education, care, youth work, residential settings or support work is advantageous.

A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Available to work full-time from September 2026.
